Preserving workforce is our objective during this tourist season (Habib Ammar)

(TAP) - 'The objective during this tourist season is not to reach record figures or to get closer to the results recorded during the past seasons, but rather to preserve the sector's workforce to ensure the 2022 season,' said Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Habib Ammar.

This workforce has suffered several hard blows including the closure of several hotels, he added in a statement to the media on the occasion of his visit, Tuesday, to Djerba.

Ammar recalled that Tunisia is a distinguished tourist destination in the Mediterranean basin and said he was optimistic about the next tourist season (2022), which, according to him, could be an important one especially with the completion of the anti-COVID-19 vaccination process, in Tunisia and in the world.

He said that the capacity of hotels in the region has reached about 50%, in accordance with the conditions of the health protocol.

He pointed out that the island of Djerba has welcomed, during the last two months, about 27 thousand tourists through 164 trips from several tourist destinations including France, Germany, Luxembourg, Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Belarus.

For his part, President of the Regional Federation of the Hotel Industry, Jalel Henchiri, stressed that the island of Djerba is one of the destinations that most respect the sanitary protocol.

'In addition to the application of the health protocol, the federation has launched an initiative that consists in carrying out rapid tests at the entrance of the hotels for each client. Otherwise, guests will have to present a document of vaccination of the two doses or a negative PCR test,' according to Henchiri.

He said that thanks to these measures, the Czech market which places Tunisia as a red zone has not left the island of Djerba and organizes 3 or 4 flights every week.

He also stressed the need to take the necessary measures to cope with the pandemic, to prepare for the coming seasons and to make a success of the Francophonie Summit which will be held in Djerba.
