Entrepreneurship: Tamweeli Meetup Tour launches in regions

June 9, 2021

TAP)- Tamweeli Meetup Tour, an initiative designed to support Tunisian very small enterprises (VSEs) and small- and medium-sized enterprises ( SMEs) in regions, was launched Tuesday in Tunis.

The initiative is intended to establish contact between enterprises and the actors of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, said Tamweeli Tunisia Director Jihen Ben Abda at a kickoff meeting of the programme.

Tamweel programme, put in motion in 2019 by the Middle East Investment Initiative (MEII) and supported by the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), seeks to foster growth and financial inclusion of Tunisian SMEs.

Tamweeli Meetup Tour, Ben Abda said, will offer the opportunity to shed light on incentives instituted for Tunisian businesses in a context of major challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will land in several regions, mainly Tunis , Sfax, Kairouan, Sousse, Gabès and Tozeur, and run till next December. The tour targets over 200 entreprises in each region and more than 30 actors of the regional ecosystem.

MEII Vice President and Country Manager in Tunisia Richard Finke said access to funding is one of the main difficulties hampering project creation with only 15% of bank financing earmarked for SMEs in the rgion.

At the close of the Kickoff meeting, a partnership agreement was inked by the Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation (French : APII) and MEII to implement the Tamweeli Meetup Tour initiative.
