Government will do everything possible to get Tunisia out of its current economic crisis'' (Kooli)

(TAP) - Minister of Economy, Finance and Investment Development, Ali Kooli said, Friday, that his government will do everything possible to get Tunisia out of its current economic crisis and improve the tax system.

In his answer to various questions raised by MPs during a plenary session at the House of People's Representatives (ARP), Kooli said that the revision of this system only provides for a reduction in the tax burden, adding that it will not be changed contrary to the claims of most MPs.

'Some citizens will pay less, others will pay more,' he said, adding that another fringe will be integrated into the scheme.

According to him, the revision of the tax system is still at the stage of reflection, adding that this issue will be discussed further with the parliamentary Finance Committee.

Reacting to a question on the 2021 complementary finance law, the minister stressed that this text is 'realistic' and 'applicable' insofar as five months after its adoption, the government has been able to benefit from loans, pay the salaries of the civil service, develop investment and the subsidy system.

The minister also considered that the finance law for the year 2021 is 'realistic' because it is not based on assumptions.

'So far, we have only one complementary finance law,' the minister said, adding that even the presentation of more than one complementary finance law will not be a problem, especially since most advanced countries resort to this solution, such as France, which recently presented six finance laws.

He added that his department is working to present concrete indicators, particularly in this new situation characterised by the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
