Tunisia-Germany: €20 thousand to develop outdoor adventure tourism in Tozeur

April 21, 2021

(TAP) - The German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) has launched a call for projects to promote outdoor adventure tourism in Tozeur (South of Tunisia).

A €20 thousand grant (about 65.8 thousand dinars) has been mobilised for this purpose for the benefit of NGOs and non-profit organisations interested in promoting this type of tourism, GIZ said in a press release.

The applications will be submitted before April 28, among which 3 or 4 will benefit from these funds.

The grant is part of the project «Promotion of sustainable tourism in Tunisia,» commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-funded by the European Union (EU).

An online meeting was organised in January 2021 with tourism representatives in Tozeur to discuss the main needs and challenges of the region.

Tunisia has many territories and sites with a high potential for diversifying tourism, around which many projects are already being built, according to GIZ.

The aim is to attract new tourists, increase added value and ensure an equitable redistribution of tourism revenues throughout the country.

Implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism within the framework of the «Tounes Wijhetouna» programme (Tunisia, our destination), the «Promotion of sustainable tourism» project seeks to diversify the tourist offer in Tunisia by focusing on ecotourism and cultural products in selected regions.
