BakoMotors to offer 6 solar-powered electric tricycles to Tunisian cities to upgrading local health infrastructure

February 27, 2023

(TAP)-The Tunisian-German startup BakoMotors will offer six solar-powered electric tricycles to six Tunisian cities as of February 28, with a view to upgrading local health infrastructure, the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) said.

Assembled in the startup's factory in the industrial zone of Mghira (governorate of Ben Arous), these solar-powered tricycles equipped with photovoltaic panels on the roof will be handed over to the health structures of the cities of El Guettar, Gabes, Kairouan, Kasserine, Midoun and Tozeur for their vaccination and awareness campaigns.

With a range of 200 km per charge, these vehicles were manufactured under a regional Maghreb-Germany Decentralised Cooperation project (KWT II), mandated by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ, in cooperation with the Interior Ministry and in consultation with the Public Health Ministry.

The goal is to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector, protect the climate and provide a multi-use means of transport for 'soft mobility' in Tunisia.

In the medium term, these tricycles will bring primary health services closer to people with reduced mobility or people living far from health centres in the six partner cities of the KWT II project.
