Need to revitalise airport activity for summer tourist season (ministers)

February 18, 2023

(TAP) - The summer tourist season requires the revitalisation of Tunisian airports, whether for internal flights or for tourist trips, Tourism Minister Mohamed Moez Belhoucine stressed during a working session held on Friday with Transport Minister Rabii Majidi.

The meeting was devoted to the preparations for the summer tourist season, particularly as regards the development of air transport and the situation of the various airports.

The Minister of Transport underlined on this occasion the full availability of the Ministry to revitalise the Tunisian airports according to their specificities and the capacities available to improve their services.

He also called for the fight against all phenomena that harm the image of Tunisia, as well as the various means of air transport, through the programmes that have been set up for this purpose, and the strengthening of control mechanisms in cooperation with the various parties.

He also indicated that among the mechanisms of good exploitation of the international airport of Tunis-Carthage, whose activity is based mainly on regular flights for passengers, and whose capacity for 2022 reached more than 5 million passengers, is the good distribution of flights to various Tunisian airports.

The Russian airline Aeroflot announced on February 8, 2023, the resumption of its flights to Tunisia from May 30, 2023.

Air traffic at Tunisian airports recorded an increase of 77.7% at the end of November 2022, ensuring 69 thousand flights against 39 thousand flights during the same period of 2021, according to statistics published by the Ministry of Transport.
