Tourist number in Sousse doubles in January 2023

TAP) - The number of visitors flocking to the tourist areas of Sousse governorate from January 1 to 20, 2023, saw a 99% increase compared to the same period of 2022.

Indeed, 33,818 tourists visited the region during this period, against only 16,995 during the same period of the previous year, Local Commissioner of Tourism Taoufik El Gaied told TAP.

Accordingly, the number of overnight stays increased by 162% reaching 102,747 overnight stays against 39,333 during the same period in 2022.

The domestic Tunisian market has risen to first place in terms of the number of visitors (15,958), or a 20% increase compared to last year.

The number of Algerian tourists has also increased by 1000% compared to 2022; hotels of Sousse-El Kantaoui welcomed 8,788 Algerian tourists during the first 20 days of January 2023.

Tourists from the traditional markets (French, German, and Italian) and others were also present, according to the same source.
