Social dialogue organisations to consider involving political parties, says UGTT's Tahri

January 27, 2023

(TAP) - Committees representing the national organisations, partners of the social dialogue initiative will consider the participation of political parties in this initiative, said deputy secretary-general of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) Sami Tahri.

The organisations behind the dialogue are UGTT, the Bar Association, the Tunisian League for the Defence of Human Rights (LTDH) and the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES).

These organisations have agreed to form three committees, whose work will kick off on Friday, Tahri told reporters at a union meeting in Sfax. These are the political reform committee, the economic reform committee and the social reform committee.

The aim of the committees' work is to draft a working document to be presented to organisations, associations, public opinion and the President of the Republic.

Political parties are an integrant part of democratic construction, which will be achieved in partnership with organisations and civil society, Tahri noted.

On the other hand, he said the UGTT has so far received no response from the Presidency of the Republic concerning the national dialogue.
