TAP) - The Arab Women Center for Training and Research (CAWTAR) is launching, on Wednesday, a campaign on the theme of '16 Days for making the Invisible Visible'. The event seeks to help women and girls holding the disability card benefit of mechanisms to prevent gender-based violence.

The campaign programme includes awareness-raising activities on the fight of violence against women in the public space, particularly women suffering from hearing and visual impairments, Communications Director at CAWTAR Atidel Mejbri said at a seminar held, Tuesday, jointly with the Francophone Network for Gender Equality (RF-EFH).

Mejbri pointed out that this campaign seeks to raise awareness about the importance of combating violence against women. It also focuses on fostering interactivity with the targeted groups, besides the participation of CAWTAR's partners, namely government agencies, civil society organisations and the private sector.

At the opening of this seminar, CAWTAR Executive Director Soukeina Bouraoui stressed the need to promote mechanisms for the prevention of all forms of violence against women so as to apply them to people with disabilities.

She noted that several countries have developed digital and technological mechanisms which take into account the specificities of people with disabilities.

During the event, participants learnt about the app. created by CAWTAR in 2020 with a view to ensuring the protection of women against all forms of violence in the public space, such as sexual harassment and theft. This app. was further developed in 2021 to adapt it to women with disabilities.
