Tunisia-EBRD: Financial and technical cooperation reviewed

November 24, 2022

TAP) - Financial and technical cooperation between Tunisia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the guidelines of the reform programme recently launched by the government in order to boost growth and preserve the State's macro-economic balances were the main issues discussed by Economy and Planning Minister Samir Saied during his meeting on Tuesday with EBRD First Vice-President Jurgan Rigterink.

The reform programme seeks through its various components, to establish an effective and sustainable economic transition as part of a new development model based on the correlation between the economic and social dimensions, the minister pointed out, according to a department press release issued Wednesday.

This programme is in line with Tunisia's strategic vision for 2035 and the 2023-2025 development plan, he said, reviewing the main measures planned under this programme to boost economic activity, improve the business climate, encourage private initiative by freeing it from bureaucratic restrictions and generalise digitisation.

Samir Saied also underlined the importance of the financial and technical support provided by the EBRD to Tunisia over the last decade, underscoring the need to further boost this cooperation and draw on the Bank's experience in the fields that are priorities for Tunisia today, such as public-private partnerships, renewable energy, desalination of sea water, digitisation and technological renovation.

Jurgan Rigterink pointed to the agreement recently concluded by Tunisia with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which shows the government's commitment to socio-economic reforms.

He touched on the need to raise awareness on a wider scale of the content of this agreement and programme, underlining the Bank's willingness to keep on supporting Tunisia, notably in the implementation of its reform programme and the achievement of priority development projects.
