Nabeul: olive production estimated at 58,000 tonnes

TAP) – The olive harvest season has reached, since early November, a rate of progress of 20% in the governorate of Nabeul where the harvest is estimated at 58,000 tonnes of olive, the equivalent of 11,000 tonnes of olive oil.

Production will see a 4% increase compared to last year when it was around 56 thousand tonnes of olives, Lotfi Kozdoghli, head of the Directorate of Agricultural Production at the local agricultural development authority in Nabeul told TAP.

According to the same source, olive processing operations have started in the region which has 52 oil mills including 4 traditional, adding control campaigns have been stepped up at the oil mills.

The season of harvesting and processing of olives, which began in early November and continues until mid-February 2023, will mobilise 4600 workers.

According to a report published by the CRDA in Nabeul the region has experienced a rise in the cultivated area of olives where the olive groves have increased by 180 hectares to 678 hectares during the season 2020-2021, thanks to the private programme of expansion of olive plantations in the northern governorates.
