October 25, 2022

(TAP) - The government will roll out new mechanisms in addressing crises with the aim of providing decent work to employees and job seekers, Minister of Social Affairs Malek Ezzahi said Monday.

Speaking at a conference on the restructuring of the labour sector in Tunisia, after the COVID-19 pandemic, Ezzahi said among these mechanisms the creation of a fund granting allowances to laidoff workers. A fund to finance initiatives by unemployed graduates will also be established, along with indigenous businesses to help increase jobs.

The minister also put emphasis on the government's commitment to dialogue with the social partners to uphold decent work.

President of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) Samir Majoul said the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the Russian-Ukrainian crisis have had a strong impact on the national economy. Most companies face a difficult financial situation, he added.

He, in this vein, urged providing conditions conducive to investment.
