Tunisia welcomes over 2 million tourists in late June 2022 (ONTT DG)

July 2, 2022

(TAP) - Tunisia has received, until June 30, 2022, more than 2 million 102 thousand 321 tourists of different nationalities, an upward trend of 104% compared to the same period of the year 2021, said Director General of the Tunisian National Tourist Office (ONTT), Nizar Slimane.

In a statement to TAP, the official added, Friday, that about 4 million 750 thousand tourists are expected in 2022, an improvement of more than 100% compared to last year.

He added that the French market remains one of the main tourist markets for the current season, knowing that 302 thousand 293 French tourists have visited Tunisia, until June 30, 2022.

It is followed by the Libyan market with about 815 thousand 83 tourists, during the same period, against 473 thousand 875 tourists, up to 72%.

The ONTT DG revealed that the Germans and Czechs are present on the Tunisian market, with the arrival, until June 30, 2022, of 57 thousand German tourists (an increase of 680% compared with the same period 2021) and 29 thousand 290 Czech tourists (a leap of 358.8%).

For the Algerian market, Slimane recalled that despite the closure of land borders between the two countries for non-residents, Tunisia has still received about 54 thousand 572 tourists, against 6 thousand 563 tourists who visited our country in 2021.

Regarding tourism revenues, Slimane said they amounted to 1234.2 MD, against 800.3 MD in 2021, that is to say an increase of 54.2%.

The receipts in Euros reached 378 million euros until June 2022, against 242 million euros in 2021, representing an evolution of 56.2%.

The number of overnight stays reached, until June 30, 2020, 4 705 947, against 1 809 810 nights in 2021, a 160% jump.

According to Slimane, the number of beds currently operational has reached 167 150 beds against 141 810 beds in 2021.

For the ONTT official, the problems of the aviation sector at the international level and the difficulties faced by the air carriers, following the successive strikes of their employees, have prevented tourists from visiting Tunisia, contrary to information suggesting a certain reluctance of tourists to visit Tunisia to spend their vacations.

'The Tunisian destination remains the preferred of some nationalities,' said the official.
