BCT publishes circular setting conditions for opening financial accounts related to participants in referendum campaign

(TAP) - The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) published, Thursday, a circular setting the conditions for opening financial accounts related to participants in the referendum campaign with Tunisian commercial banks and postal agencies.

According to the first article of the circular number 5 of the year 2022, banks and the Tunisian post office are required to open a single account for the referendum campaign in the name of the participant in this campaign which can be an individual or a coalition of political parties or a legal entity (political party or association or organisation or network of associations).

It is strictly forbidden for Tunisian commercial banks and postal agencies to open more than one account related to the referendum campaign for each participant, according to the BCT circular.

According to the 2nd article of the circular, banks and post offices must before opening an account related to the referendum campaign, exchange data with the BCT to verify the absence of another account in the name of the same participant.

The Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) issued a decision on June 8, 2022, regarding the timetable for the referendum on July 25, 2022.

According to this decision, the timetable of the referendum is established between May 3 and August 28, 2022, the date of the proclamation of the final results of the referendum on the draft of the new Constitution of the Tunisian Republic.

Under Article 11 of the decision of the ISIE, the referendum campaign should start on Sunday, July 3 and will continue until July 23. Abroad, the campaign will take place from July 1 to 21.

The vote begins on Saturday, July 23 for Tunisians abroad and ends on July 25, the voting date for the rest of Tunisians.

The preliminary results of the referendum will be announced from July 26 to 28, 2022. The final results will be announced on August 28, 2022, after appeals are examined between July 30 and August 27, 2022.
