(TAP) - Officials of the Tourism Ministry and representatives of the Regional Council of Lombardy (northern Italy) and the Italian league of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions agreed on Wednesday in Tunis to seal a partnership on future cooperation programmes.

The two sides met with Tourism Minister Mohamed Moez Belhassine, within the framework of the working visit made by the Italian officials in Tunis from June 21 to 25, 2022, the Ministry said in a statement.

This meeting comes after a working visit paid by the Tourism Minister in Milan, on April 10 and 11, 2022, on the margins of the Tunisian participation in the International Tourism Exhibition.

The two parties sides discussed the opportunities of cooperation with the Regional Council of Lombardy and the Italian league of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions. They examined means to implement partnership programmes, particularly to diversify the Tunisian tourist product.

The meeting also considered taking advantage of the Italian experience in the fields of tourist training and the development of the Tunisian tangible and intangible heritage and handicrafts. The aim is to promote the marketing of the Tunisian destination, to consolidate the foundations of sustainable tourism and set up tourist routes in connection with the culinary heritage of the two countries.
