(TAP) – A Center of Innovation at the National School of Computer Science at Manouba University was inaugurated on Wednesday to receive students who have ideas for innovative projects.

The center is part of a project meant to enhance quality in higher education and scientific research and it is funded by the ministry to encourage students to innovate, said Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Moncef Boukthir.

It will also seek to invest in the capacities and intelligence of university graduates so that they launch projects in Tunisia and contribute to job creation, the same source said.

He underlined that the center will help combat Tunisia’s brain drain which has increased at an alarming rate by creating an environment conducive to investment.

The ministry is making considerable efforts to ensure that the higher education and scientific research system is in tune with international standards, he indicated. We are considering the creation of the Tunisian evaluation and accreditation agency that will be in charge of evaluating public and private higher education and scientific research institutions as well as research activities and programmes within the ministry.

Boukthir put emphasis on the partnership agreement signed between Tunisia and the European Union as well as the entry of Tunisia as partner in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation 'Horizon Europe, for the period 2021-2027'.

Thanks to the funds granted to the Ministry (€95 million (about 319 million dinars), this agreement will help contribute to fund research and innovation projects as well as innovative projects proposed not only by universities and research centres, but also by small and medium-sized enterprises, the minister added.
