STEG: guarantee agreement for a $30-million loan to partially finance its natural gas supplies from Algeria-Tunisia

TAP) - The Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG) has just got the approval from the Presidency of the Republic for a $ 30-million loan from the Maghreb Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade (BMICE).

According to the Presidential Decree No. 2022-543 published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Tunisia (JORT) on June 14, 2022, the loan aims to partially finance STEG’s supplies of natural gas from Algeria. The agreement between Tunisia and BMICE was signed on April 13, 2022.

According to the monthly report on the energy situation published on April 14, 2022, purchases of Algerian gas have risen by 25% between the end of February 2021 and the end of February 2022, to 385 kilotonnes of oil equivalent (Ktoe).

The average price of Algerian gas saw an increase of 94% in dinars and 83% in dollars, between the end of February 2021 and the end of February 2022.

The tax package on the passage of Algerian gas has, meanwhile, dropped 5% at the end of February 2022, compared to the same period last year.
