Government's central account balance up to 4487.9 MD (BCT)

April 22, 2021

TAP)- The government's central account balance increased considerably from 1 306 million dinars (MD) at the end of 2019 to 4 487.9 MD in 2020, according to the Financial Statements of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) for 2020.

This section includes the credit balances of accounts in foreign currencies or in dinars that constitute resources available to the Treasury that it can mobilise as part of its daily cash management.

This is the case, in particular, of the current account of the Tunisian Treasury (3 234.1MD) and other accounts holding funds from external credits intended for budget support (1 133.4MD).

This increase is mainly due to the credit facilities granted exceptionally to the State for an amount of 2 810 MD, intended to finance part of the budget deficit of the year 2020 caused by the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Treasury's current account balance was thus raised to 3 234.1 MD, i.e. up by 2 329.1 MD, compared to its balance a year before.
