Djerba: Regional sectoral consultation on challenges of informal sector in Tourism

April 6, 2021

(TAP) - A regional sectoral consultation on the challenges of the informal sector of tourism, hospitality and handicrafts, was held in Djerba, said Sunday, GIZ Tunisia.

The social partners, regional government structures and professionals in the tourism sector, active in the region of Djerba, agreed on a set of recommendations for the transition to the formal.

This is essentially the review of the strategy and decentralisation of governance for an active role of local communities and regulation of activities related to tourism or para tourism, including guest houses and entertainment activities.

They agreed on the need to support the retraining of workers in the sector, the operationalisation of the status of the self-employed and strengthening the attractiveness of the sector.

Other regional sectoral consultations will follow. The resulting recommendations will be presented at the national level in a strategic workshop and will be the subject of a tripartite roadmap.

This workshop was organised by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Tunisia, at the initiative of the Technical Committee Transition from Informal to Formal under the project 'Alliance for Economic Growth and Employment, ACE / Social Dialogue', mandated by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and implemented by the GIZ Tunisia.
