Vaccination campaigns could boost tourism recovery (Minister)

March 25, 2021

(TAP) -«The COVID-19 vaccination campaigns and the vaccination of 3 million people before the end of June 2021 would boost the recovery of the tourist activity,» says Minister of Tourism and Handicraft Habib Ammar.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference of Regional Commissioners of Culture, being acting Minister of Cultural Affairs, Ammar told TAP that the evolution of the collective immunity index before the end of summer would back Tunisia's image as a health-safe tourist destination.

«This could improve tourist-attraction, given the strong competition between world tourist destinations,» he added, noting that the Department is preparing for the 2021 tourist season and will focus on domestic tourism and traditional markets, notably the Algerian and Libyan, in addition to the European markets.

«Resuming the tourist activity remains dependent on the evolution of the health situation in Tunisia and abroad,» he declared.

Ammar stressed that the ministry is making plans that take into account the health prevention and the facilitation of the entry of tourists within the framework of tour packages while respecting the health protocol.

The Department is coordinating closely with the National Committee to combat the coronavirus, which carries out a regular evaluation of the health situation.

On the open skies matter, the minister said Tunisia has prepared its file, which is managed by the Ministry of Transport and has submitted it to the European Union (EU).
