Tunisia present at Gulfood in Dubai despite pandemic

February 23, 2021

(TAP)-Tunisia is participating for the 15th consecutive time in Gulfood, organised on February 21-25 in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), despite the particular context related to COVID-19 which has led to the cancellation and postponement of the majority of international trade fairs, the Export Promotion Centre (CEPEX) said on Monday.

The national pavilion of 381 sq. m. brings together a total of 45 Tunisian companies, divided between the pavilion managed by CEPEX in the World Food section (35 enterprises) and the pavilion managed by Packtec in the Fats & Oils section (10 olive oil exhibitors).

In addition to the products usually exhibited (dates, olive oil, pasta and canned food, sweets and biscuits and cheeses), the Tunisian offer this year includes new products displayed for the first time, namely fresh vegetables, fish products and coffee, according to CEPEX.

The exhibition's offer is broken down into 8 sectoral themes, namely drinks, dairy products, cereals, World Food, Fats & Oils, major brands, health and well-being products and meat and poultry.

The exhibition organisers are expecting a 30% drop in the number of visitors due to travel restrictions imposed by several countries. However, the first day of the fair saw a large number of visitors, which bodes well for this year's edition.

Tunisian exports to the United Arab Emirates recorded a 13% drop in 2020.

This drop touched all activity sectors except for the agro-food sector exports, which grew by 25%.
