Electricity production from renewable energy sees 3% growth in 2020

(TAP) - The production of electricity from renewable energy sources recorded a 3% growth in 2020, compared to 2019, said the report published by the National Observatory of Energy and Mines.

According to this report on the energy situation in December 2020, the production of renewable energy is composed mainly of wind energy (2.4%), hydropower (0.2%) and solar energy which recorded a very low rate. Electricity generated from natural gas decreased by 2%.

The observatory said the photovoltaic power plant Tozeur 1, which has a production capacity of 10MW, will start production in February this year, adding that 197 authorisations were granted for a total power of 36MW.

Tunisia aims to achieve 30% of electricity production from renewable energy by 2030.
