SYNAGRI holds gov't responsible for agricultural ammonium nitrates shortage

February 8, 2021

TAP) - The Tunisian Farmers' Union (SYNAGRI) called Friday for providing the necessary quantity of agricultural ammonium nitrates to save the different agricultural seasons (field crops, vegetables, fruit trees, etc.) and to import additional quantitiy from neighbouring countries in a bid to overcome the lack reported at the national level.

The union further stressed the need to revise the grading scale and the benchmark price of grains in line with the latest developments.

The government is to blame for the shortage of ammuniumnitrates and the lack of control of distribution channels, the union said, calling for the mobilisation of a budget in the 2021 Supplementary Finance Law to compensate farmers and fishermen affected by the lack of necessary inputs at the right time.

SYNAGRI also reiterated its support to farmers affected by the Ammonitrate shortage and to farmers in the various fields, who are affected by the monopoly phenomenon that has worsened the shortage of necessary inputs.
