COVID-19: ''economic recovery impossible without mass national vaccination plan'' (CONECT)

January 14, 2021

(TAP) - 'Economic recovery would be impossible without a mass national vaccination plan,' members of the executive board of the Confederation of Tunisian Citizen Enterprises (French: CONECT) said at a meeting Tuesday.

They expressed at the meeting their deep concern over the absence of a national vaccination strategy against the coronavirus, stressing that the government is now facing a historic responsibility during this health crisis.

'Stakeholders should reveal a vaccination strategy to the public very soon as well as the priority conditions and logistics adopted,' they added.

The private sector is ready to consolidate national efforts so that the population gets vaccinated as quickly as possible under well-defined health conditions, the confederation underscored.

According to CONECT, only mass vaccination and strict compliance with health protocols will help Tunisia curb the COVID-19 pandemic which poses an imminent threat to human lives and to the national economy.

The coronavirus death toll has reached 5,343 until January 11 (until 11 p.m.), after 59 deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Tuesday evening.

It also reported 2,586 more positive cases, from 8,715 tests carried out. The number of recoveries stood at 120,999, out of 164,936 infection cases recorded until January 11.

According to a recent report on the epidemiological situation in the country, 1,802 patients are currently staying in public and private hospitals. 359 of them are in intensive care units and 130 are put on ventilators.
