CEO of Accor Group to visit Tunisia in Q1 2021 (Tourism Ministry)

(TAP) - Sebastien Bazin, CEO of French Accor Group should make a working visit to Tunisia in the first quarter of 2021, said the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts.

The visit will take place at an invitation by the Minister of Tourism Habib Ammar at a meeting with French tourism professionals, held as part of the visit paid to France by Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi and his delegation from December 13 to 15.

During the meeting, Ammar discussed with the head of the hotel group the possibilities of cooperation, particularly in terms of training and retraining and ways to draw on the expertise of Accor training academies, the ministry said in a statement Friday.

The Minister called on the CEO of the 'Accor' group to further stimulate investments in the tourism and hotel sector in various Tunisian regions.

Ammar also met with French Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot and reviewed the situation of the cultural sector in Tunisia and France, including the impact of the COVID-19 crisis and the measures taken to support the sector in both countries.

They discussed the various bilateral cooperation programmes and ways of enhancing the value of archaeological sites, including the programme to develop the Museum of Carthage, which is part of the project 'Heritage 3000', a component of the programme Tounes Wijhetouna ('Tunisia: our destination').

The Minister also discussed the President of the «Syndicat des Entreprises du Tour Opérating» (SETO) René-Marc Chikli and a number of tourism professionals the difficult situation underwent by the tourism sector and by travel agencies due to COVID-19.

They talked about the total halt of activity and the bankruptcy of many tourism facilities and travel agencies.

The meeting also dealt with the strategies identified for the post-pandemic period in order to ensure a gradual resumption of the tourist activity, in addition to measures to support the sector and its employees that have been taken in both countries.
