Framework agreement on promotion of local tourism applies to all travel agencies and tourist accommodation facilities

December 7, 2020

TAP) - The framework agreement signed Friday to promote local tourism applies to all travel agencies, whatever federations they belong to, and to all tourist accommodation facilities, said the Ministry of Tourism.

The agreement, which was signed by the Tunisian National Tourist Office (ONTT), the Tunisian Hotel Federation (FTH) and the Tunisian Federation of Travel and Tourism Agencies (FTAV), aims to promote local tourism.

It is the Fund for the Development of Competitiveness (French: FODEC) which will finance this promotional campaign, said a press release published by the FTH Saturday.

This agreement, which covers a period from December 1 to March 31, 2021, aims to boost local tourism which has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ministry recalled that the signing of the agreement is part of the materialisation of the decision of the Prime Minister at last November 6 Cabinet meeting on putting in place programme to revive domestic tourism, until March 31, 2021, and its financing by FODEC.

The Ministry pointed out that the ONTT has been mandated to supervise the implementation of the content of this agreement, which aims at supporting and boosting domestic tourism in partnership with professionals given the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The agreement also aims at boosting the sectors linked to domestic tourism, including crafts, restaurants and air transport.

The tourism sector has been totally paralysed by the health crisis, with a 70% drop in the number of tourists during the first eight months of 2020.
