Tourist overnight stays drop 80% at end of October 2020 (ONTT)

(TAP) – The number of tourist overnight stays dropped by 80% during the first 10 months of 2020, compared to the same period last year, Director General of the Tunisian National Tourist Office (ONTT) Mohamed Moez Belhassine told TAP.

The flow of arrivals saw a 77% decline, especially among Europeans (-85%) and North Africans (-78), he said.

As for tourism revenues, they dropped by 62%, to stand at 1.8 billion dinars against 4.8 billion dinars in October 2019. In euros, these receipts fell by 60%, Belhassine added.

The tourism activity represents 14% of GDP and offers over 400 thousand jobs.

In Tunisia, there are 876 hotel units, 1,354 travel agencies, 374 tourist restaurants and more than 1,000 tourist guides.
