October 18, 2020

TAP) -'Agriculture and food security amid the COVID-19 crisis' is the theme of a webinar to be organised on October 16, 2020, at the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries in partnership with the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), on the occasion of the celebration of World Food Day.

The main objective of this event is to assess the impact of the health crisis on agriculture, to analyse the risks and sensitivity of the agricultural sector and to rethink strategies to ensure the country's food security.

According to the latest studies, nearly 690 million people in the world suffer from hunger, 10 million more than in 2019. Depending on economic growth scenarios, the COVID-19 pandemic could swell the ranks of the hungry from 83 to 132 million people.

The COVID-19 global health crisis has thus provided an opportunity to reflect on what meets the most basic needs. In this unforeseen health development, this reflection has made it possible to rediscover the absolute necessity of food availability.
