TAP)- An eight-hectare tourist zone will be created in Zaghouan, near the temple of waters, announced Sunday, regional commissioner for tourism in Southern Tunis and Zaghouan Salah Kacem.

Half of this area has already been included in the urban development plan of Zaghouan as a tourist zone.

The Tourist Land Agency (AFT) is also going to acquire a four-hectare plot of land for this purpose, he indicated on the occasion of World Tourism Day.

He added that the Office of Topography and Cadastre (OTC) has started the delimitation operation of the zone, in coordination with the AFT and the regional authorities, before launching the technical studies of the project.

Kacem recalled that Zaghouan has natural, cultural and environmental wealth, allowing it to become a privileged tourist destination.

A seminar on 'rural tourism and its role in sustainable regional development,' attended by promoters of alternative tourism projects and rural cottages and representatives of associations active in this sector, was held on the occasion in the region.

This meeting provided the opportunity to discuss the role of rural tourism in boosting the economy, creating direct and indirect employment and also to discuss the legal obstacles and administrative procedures that hinder the creation of such projects.

Owners of blocked projects and holders of project ideas called on this occasion for the acceleration of the resolution of these problems in order to encourage investors and develop the sector.
