First medical research and simulation centre in Tunisia launched in Sfax

TAP) - The Faculty of Medicine in Sfax, on Friday, held a ceremony to launch the first medical research and simulation centre in Tunisia, funded by the U.S. Embassy in Tunis with an estimated budget of 14.5 million dinars.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Moncef Boukthir said the project, the first of its kind in the history of Tunisia and the Tunisian University, is a health centre par excellence in university research and technological innovation through simulation.

He added that this centre will support and develop the sharing of experiences between Tunisia and U.S. universities, and contribute to a greater openness of the University of Sfax on its economic environment.

President of the University of Sfax, Abdelwahed Makni commended this initiative, the first of its kind in Tunisia in the field of medical training.

He said this centre is 'the first core of cooperation between the Faculty of Medicine of Sfax, academic institutions and university research centres in Tunisia and U.S. universities to facilitate the exchange of information and experience based on innovation and research.

U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia, Donald Bloom said that this project will help make the region of Sfax a medical hub by providing the necessary resources to doctors and researchers to prevent and treat non-communicable diseases.
