Renewable energy: Tunisia targets 30MW capacity in public enterprises and institutions by 2025

April 7, 2021

TAP) - Tunisia is targeting the installation of 30 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy (RE) capacity in public enterprises and institutions during the next 4 years, said Tuesday Director-General of the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), Fethi Hanchi.

The objective is to help public companies reduce their electricity bills, he added, during a seminar on the energy transition programme within public companies, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines.

'The energy transition programme in public enterprises is based on two main projects; the first is the installation of electricity production systems from solar photovoltaic (PV) energy and the second is energy efficiency,' he said during the gathering, which was attended by about 150 participants and stakeholders in the RE sector (on-site and online).

The cost of investment for this 4-year programme is estimated at 200 million dinars (MD), including 160 MD mobilised through a loan from the German Bank 'KFW' and 40 MD in the form of participation of the Energy Transition Fund (ETF) and ANME, the official said.

ANME will ensure, according to its D-G, an accompaniment for companies and public institutions with the support of KFW, during all stages of implementation of investments intended for the energy transition, from the beginning (primary studies) until the final reception and commissioning of equipment.

'Tunisia is able to implement these projects with the required quality. The country is already well ranked on a global scale, since it is ranked 20th in the world in terms of energy efficiency and renewable energy out of a total of 133 countries', Hanchi said.
