(TAP) - “Climate Change, Immigration, Are We involved?” is the theme of the 4th edition of the Coffee-Debate for 2019, to be held by the International Centre of Environmental Technologies of Tunis (French: CITET) on Thursday, November 21. The event will be attended by climate and energy experts as well as representatives of various climate change departments. The organisation of this new edition is part of Tunisia’s participation in the conference on climate “ COP 25” that will take place in Madrid, Spain On December 2-13. During this event, Tunisia will present its environmental strategy and projects in a bid to back international efforts in minimising the impacts of climate change. Tunisia’s civil society plays a crucial role in supporting international efforts, particularly in preserving the environment and disseminating an environmental culture amid expected rising greenhouse effects and in view of the international movement to combat the impact of climate change on man and nature. The effects of climate change become more visible during times of drought, flood, storms, sea level rise, and continuous loss of natural resources. Tunisia is working to adjust to these changes and lessening their impact by adopting various environmental policies, namely energy policies which help reduce carbon emissions by 41% compared with 2010 as well as decrease energy demand by 30% by 2030. The lectures that will be given during this event will address “The Impact of Climate Change in Tunisia with respect to Immigration”, “Energy and Climate Change”, “The Role of the Centre (CITET) in the Transfer and Adaptation of Environmental Technologies to Combat Climate Change” and “Immigration in Light of Climate Change”. |
