(TAP)- A tendering process for a transitional waste management project in the island of Djerba was launched, said Secretary of State for Local Affairs and Environment Besma Jebali. The project consists in putting in place a mechanism of automatic and biological treatment of waste.
The project extends over 3 to 5 years, Jebali Saturday told TAP. The department is coordinating with the Tourism Ministry in order to develop an agreement under which 400 waste sorting points would be set up throughout the island in hotels, tourist restaurants and three pilot districts in every delegation.
The target is to ensure source separation to reduce the volume of waste directed towards landfill sites, pending the launch of the final waste management project in Djerba.
